ELMHURST – On June 25, 2011, the new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital on the corner of York and Roosevelt roads will be opening its doors to patients.
“Since breaking ground in May 2008, construction crews and members of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare’s (EMHC) project team have worked tirelessly to ensure this historic project remains on schedule,” said Leo Fronza, president and chief executive officer of EMHC. “I am pleased to announce that not only are we on schedule, we are ahead of schedule.”
The 866,000-square-foot new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital building will sit on approximately 50 acres at the corner of York and Roosevelt roads in Elmhurst. It will contain 259 private inpatient suites and incorporate the latest trends in healthcare in an aesthetically pleasing, easy-to-navigate environment.
“The new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital will be an ideal blend of the practical and the beautiful,” Fronza said. “We have carefully designed it with the future in mind so that it can accommodate changes in healthcare, ensuring it will be as functional 50 years from now as it will be on opening day.”
Connected to the new Hospital will be the existing Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health, which offers a full array of outpatient services and two medical office buildings, one of which will also open on June 25, 2011. The second medical office building – located on the east side of the campus – will be constructed in the future and will contain physician offices as well as the EMH Cancer Center and additional offices for the Elmhurst Clinic.
A community event to commemorate the opening of the new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital is planned for June 19, 2011.
“Opening the new Hospital will be a momentous occasion, and we look forward to celebrating the completion of this historic project with the communities we serve,” Fronza said.
In addition to the new campus, EMHC is embarking on another project that will bring enhanced services and a unique healthcare experience to the community of Addison. EMHC recently received approval from the Village of Addison to redevelop the Elmhurst Memorial Addison Health Center.
Located on the same property as the current facility, the redeveloped Addison Health Center will be a 55,000-square-foot building that uses attractive Prairie-style architecture and a warm, welcoming interior to create a soothing environment that reduces anxiety and helps patients relax. It will feature more physician office space, expanded laboratory services, radiology, immediate care and community education areas.
Construction is expected to begin in fall 2010 after the necessary public approvals have been obtained. The current facility will remain open while the new one is being built, which is expected to take approximately one year.
